TOKYO Prelude

I guess I owe you all a post on my trip from Tokyo, but I can't tell you much now because the pictures aren't with me. They are still with lazy soozey dearie. *hint hint hint HINT*

The trip started on 16th Dec with a flight to Tokyo, transiting at KL, with Malaysian Airlines. Mum was being the usual worry wort, and passed me various woollen sweaters and thick jackets for a 10 day trip, that threatened to explode my luggage. But I tossed them out anyway, to make space for my dance shoes and an extra pair of booties I had recently bought. :P and of course my new soon-to-be purchases.

One of my main concerns was my wardrobe in Tokyo. I didn't want to look touristy and Singaporean, mainly because I'm mostly embarrassed by the Singaporean tourists' antics when they are overseas... spoilt brats, naggy and complain-ish middle aged people, all complete with the all too cringeworthy accent. I can't recall how many times I've recognised a Singaporean family from a distant from the children's loud rants or whines for something on the street.

On the other hand, maybe looking touristy wouldn't warrant the nonchalant looks cast at us, because we look too much like the locals. Salespeople and registration staff chattered away happily in Japanese when we approached them.

Anyway, for the first time in my life, I took the plane trip by myself. Again, my worrywort mum toyed with the idea of making dearie wait for me at Narita Airport at 10am in the morning before I told her the trip takes around $100. Ok, slightly exaggerated, but still... I'm old enough lor haha.

On the plane from KL to Narita I sat beside this big, cheery American, although we slept for most of the way till the last hour. I was grumpy and was wondering whether I should just be anti-social and not speak to anyone beside the stewardesses. Just before the flight landed, we talked for a bit and he told me how it was good to have a stay at a ryokan, just for the experience of it. He said we'd have the best time in our life. He'd seen me desperately studying a map to K's House (where we were bunking at) and offered to take me to the train station and explain the routes to me. (Yay! I was secretly relieved)

His name was Glenn, and he's a businessman who'd travelled between Singapore, KL and Tokyo for over 15 years, and held double citizenship (US and Japan). And he was so nice. He waited for me at the checkout counter, because my luggage was checked and I was frisked. =.= All the time I was thinking.. Do I look like a terrorist to you? Glenn spoke in rapid Japanese to the train station staff and checked out the train schedule for me. Then he gave me his Suica (similar to Ez-link card) and bought the train ticket to Kuramae for me, saying that it was his gift to welcome me to Japan. Then he sent me off to the gates at the platform.

Yay!!! Thanks so much to Glenn.. I felt really welcome in Japan already. This was also the incident where I decided that, if I should get lost in the streets and there is some Caucasian guy who looks like he's at home, he's probably the best bet to ask for directions. Another incident reaffirmed my guess (:

It was an early train ride to the dormitory just after peak hour, so I had mostly a pleasant ride on the train, riding through the backgardens and backdoors through the residential areas. It was surreal, just thinking that I'd already arrived in Japan.

Ok , time to get off work. It'd be my first day of internship tomorrow, and I'll be back with more stories about Japan!!

New Musical Experience

My iPod earphones have served me well.. I think it's about year and a half since I got them, but the due to wear and tear the rubber coating's come off. Dearie also needed a pair cos his precious Crossroads spoilt.

So we went shopping today for new earphones between dinner and class time.

I started out looking for a pair of cheap and pretty earphones like the ones that Karen recommended sometime ago. The bling bling ones that cost only $15.

BUT we discovered a new shop selling only audio equipment, ranging from the cheapest of about $14, up to $600 for a personal listening experience. $600! What could be so good!

We wondered around the shop in amazement at the assortment of earphones, headphones, speakers, and iPhone accessories that this store stocked. Of course then I discovered Audio Technica's pretty designs, and started wowing at them. Hehe. I was worried that it would be pretty only but far from the target in the design department, but Soozey, being the techie, assured me that Audio Technica's products are good.

We wondered around somemore before I asked for something that has deep bass - Sony was introduced, and was on the verge of getting it for $39, then finally the bf asked about Creative EP-630. We compared the sound quality and decided that, at $45, he would fork out for it. But it took me some time to convince myself - $6 difference isn't a lot for the amazing improvement in sound quality. And so I bought a pair too. I bought the pink one! He bought a pair of all black one which I thought was damn cool, but not easy to dirty, but it just wasn't me.

So now I'm "burning in" the earphones - Dearie taught me - to blast some music for 10-12 hours through the earpieces so that the audio experience after that would be richer. The earphones are so good, that its now acting as speakers when I turn it to the highest volume.

Now I can finally enjoy music complete with bass and sound surround. It's my first set of in-ear earphones and I hope I get used to it on long term wearing.

Sentosa Trips

Been spending a lot of time travelling to & fro Sentosa these days.

Happy Birthday Qi!

Her party was at Cool Deck at Siloso Beach. Pretty woman!
She's just 2 days younger than me, but her party was a day before mine. Now waiting for the third dragon's birthday, so that we can all go out and spend loads on food again haha.

Dearie and I went to Sentosa again a few days laterr. We didn't do much there, primarily because it was too damn warm to do anything. But we walked around slowly, in cooling pink clothes. Looking like tourists complete with camera in hand. And of course, the touristy photos that we took while being there. While the day was still light anyways.

Aha! Pirates of the Carribean you think?

Nope it wasn't! We went on the 4D ride, I think it's called the extreme log ride, and we had to wear these glasses. The moment we entered the waiting hallway, this annoying "Pirate" greeted us in his motley ways, and taught us how to sing pirate songs. =.=

While the ride was nothing short of predictable, I have to say that some of the effects were still good. But it's nothing compared to those simulating machines you have at the Singapore Discovery Centre. Remember those? You get to sit in one because you went there on a field trip, and the machine brings you through this coal mine, and you were jerked up and down left and right and upside down, with brilliant accompanying visuals.

IF you have a little more cash to spare, do go for the Desperados ride instead. With the hype that it generated when it opened a few months back, I reckon that would be money better spent.

We also went onto the Skyride (the one at the Luge area) and took a harrowing ride down the hill. For fear of my Birks dropping down into the realms of the unknown, I took them off and placed them on the bench, riding, yes, barefooted. Then fumbled to put them on before we had to hop off the bench again. I don't want to get my backside whacked by the flying bench!

What was really scary was that the ride stopped abruptly, and everyone in mid-air was left swinging on the benches for at least 3 minutes. By then I think I had already started to wonder how we were really gonna get down if the mechanism is spoilt.

Then we took a slow walk down Siloso Beach, and contemplated buying beer because it was so damn warm, even though it was like 8pm. 8pm and warm on a beach?! I haven't thought that would have been possible.

Anyways, I love cable car rides. Especially at night. We took the cable car ride back to Harbourfront, stayed on it, made a round to Mount Faber and came back down to Harbourfront again. Thankfully the car was cool enough, as we were high up in the air. The sight is rather romantic. (: It may not be the same on the flyer though, where it's highly likely that you would have to share the cabin with noisy kids. There goes a romantic date plan. =.='''

Hopefully such posts suffice while I wait for my birthday pictures to come from my photographers, edit them and show them here! (:

Here's a sneak preview:
After the whole party and MacDonald's gathering, of a very tired girl and boy.

Thanks so much Dearie. (:

Supersta(C)ruisee!

The Super OVERDUE post!

We went to the SAF Yacht Club on the 10th of May, and the driver was Mr CusMarCus-repeterSeng. He had just gotten his license, and we were to be his first passengers on a boat! GuineaPIGGGGs.

I also want to have a boat like this! When will I get one?

I forgot the bring my sunglasses, and Mo insisted on lending me her red ones, while she had her RayBans. :P How does it look?

Bali...

...not! We wish though.

The boardwalk.

I'm lovin' my new camera!

I LOVE YOU!

This is where we are going. Or so Navigator Seng said. But we have absolutely no idea where on the sea it is.

And this is just part of our loot!

Bye Buoy!

"We are going to paddle back to shore. NOW! Come you go the other side." Ade says.

We are all DRENCHED here. Because Navigator Seng is not at the wheel. Bright is! :(

Our Jack & Rose.

Finally it's time to take all the sunset pictures. Sundown!

Jack & Rose again.

I love this shot. It looks like a magazine shoot.

Restaurant City pouty lips.

... and we are back to the boardwalk!

It was really tiring, getting tan and drenched and all. But it was a really fun day. We went to Changi to eat prata and satay, and got our tired asses on the train back home. I wanna go on one again!

Pictures of my birthday will be up soon! (((:

Melbourne Day TWO

I'm sorry about the dearth of posts. But Blogger is really slow in uploading photos, so I've been putting it off. Bleah.
Red-bricked building. I am imagining Dan studying in here.

Melbourne also have!
Queen Victoria Market. The locals call it Vic Mart.

One of the best breakfasts I've ever had! Happy!

It was about 2 weeks to Christmas!

Outside the boutique hotel - Jasper Hotel. It was quite impressive! But the automatic door wouldn't slide open when XuZi stood there till he felt like an idiot and surreptitiously moved away. Heheh. Apparently the door only opens when someone who holds a Jasper key comes within sensor range. Nicely decorated interior.
But I was disappointed by the size of it. It looked smaller than it did on the photos. ):

As we left Jasper, we saw this outrageous knife holder. I think Dan would love this for his birthday!I love this Post office building. It looks like a Gringotts from the Harry Potter books.

Bumble bee on a tram. Hehe.

I really like this photo. A splash of colour in a sepia-tinged environment. It's pretty.
Another tram!
The machine and its tickets which confounded us for a while. We took the tram to Smith Street - a quaint, romantic little street which has all the factory outlets and small art galleries.
Adidas
Shopping heaven!

What's so special about this lane? All the graffiti! Wah I wouldn't mind staying here!

We had dinner at a quaint little shop called Mama Vittoria. I loved it! Not so much that the food was fantastic, but it was really cosy, and the waitresses were really warm people. You could take what you like and then pay for it at the end of your meal. They count on the patrons to be honest. I like!

As usual, the portions were huge. And we shared again.
While they didn't. Again. Lol. Good luck to their tummies!
Then we went to the Direct Factory Outlet to continue on our shopping trip before everything closes at 6. Eep!
Mr Xu was so excited to see his name all over the placethat he had to take a picture with it.

We took a train from Southern Cross Station that evening to look at some super nice scenery.Platform 11.
I was freezing, and nicky was just in his shirt. Act tough!

I like the train's exterior. So futuristic and clean.
This picture is really interesting.
The man at the front is freaking tall, and there is a cyclist just coming out of the train. Hes cycling in and out of the train! Wow. You would have gotten caught and get slapped with a fine in Singapore.
And we reached our destination! (I can't recall the name though. JY help! Hehe.)

Eureka Skydeck 88
On the ground floor, just before you enter the lift, there is an interactive table which displays floating facts, and opens up into windows when you touch it. If you touch the surroundings, a ripple effect forms.
Lifts accelerate at close to gravitational pull. :S

Then my camera battery went flat. ): But here are some shots I found off Google.
There are info links/lines on the floor that display interesting facts about Melbourne landmarks.

That's all folks. Hope I come back soon! (:
