DANCE for JAPAN

Greetings martians (rather, from this martian who has abandoned this space)! If you guys have been keeping with my activities on Twitter and Facebook, you'll know that a bunch of us have started organising a dance concert to raise funds for Japan, and spread awareness for young people like you and  I about the channels of donating to Japan.

This event is called, simply, Dance for Japan. We have a simple but informative site up and running over the weekend at http://danceforjapan.sg.

This all started with @stooffi posting a comment on Facebook about having dancers come together to contribute to Japan. It snowballed with over 2000 supporters over the weekend. We all wanted to help our friends in Japan as the dance scene and cultures in Singapore and Japan are closely intertwined. It eventually evolved into something much bigger (and unexpected) - a full-fledged 2-hour production with the top hiphop crews from Singapore pledging their time and performance for this concert (RSVP at the Facebook event page!) Since then, I've been working with 18 other supermen&women trying to realise this event.

We know that the situation in Japan is bleak right now - after a triple whammy of an earthquake, which triggered a tsunami, and right now, a nuclear plant crisis - all of these on a "spectacular" scale. The Japanese have much work to do - battle diseases, search for food and potable water untainted by the nuclear radiation, rebuild homes and restoring infrastructure. All these needs cash*, and we think this is the most practical help that we can give Japan.

We have an exciting line-up of the top hip-hop crews in Singapore, hosted by THE Sheik Haikel.

If you have seen the show, and feel that its well worth much more than just the $20 ticket fare, there'll be booths from Mercy Relief with donation boxes stationed outside the auditorium.

the bf and I are thinking of the possibility of working out a more convenient way for you guys to donate through more convenient means by way of online donations. I'll update here again if there's news!
